Pohono Trail Backpack
Mile for mile, vista for vista the Pohono Trail is one of the most spectacular trails in Yosemite. The hike is of moderate length, 13 miles, and relatively gentle gradient. Along the way there are exceptional views of the icons Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall as well as countless other, lesser known, equally impressive features. These factors make it an ideal one to two night backpacking photography trip.
Rather than trying to cover the entire distance in a day, a backpack trip allows the participants to photograph the most compelling locations during the nicest light, sunset and sunrise. A most appealing aspect of these locations’ relative remoteness, photographers will not be jockeying for space with other tripods making these a true wilderness photography experience. There is also something extremely rewarding to carry everything one needs to live for a few days on their back to experience these locations in such depth.
Along the way a professional photographer guide will be instructing on a vast array of photographic topics depending on the participants goals and experience. This information could include creating strong compositions, evaluating proper exposure, reading the light and pre-visualizing images. Guides will help participants create the most compelling images from technical as well as artistic standpoints. Knowledge gained goes well beyond the natural setting and will be useful for any photographic endeavors in the future.
Young Lakes Backpack
Join a professional photographer as he leads a small group, on a three day, two night backpack photography trip to Young Lakes in Yosemite. This is an ideal location for a backcountry workshop. The hike in to the designated base camp is moderate (about seven miles) with moderate elevation gain; this will allow for short photographic excursions without carrying all one’s gear. There is an abundance of macro to intimate to grand landscape opportunities within a relatively small geographic area and access across the terrain is relatively easy.
